Roya Chowdhury stands as a beacon of artistic excellence in Bangladesh, renowned for her mesmerizing poetry recitations that have captivated audiences worldwide. Born into an illustrious and respectful Muslim family, Roya is the cherished daughter of the late Colonel Shamsuz Jahan Chowdhury and the late Lutfun Shams. Her lineage is a testament to a heritage that values education and empowers women, nurturing Roya into the esteemed artist she is today.

From an early age, Roya‘s educational journey set the stage for her future achievements. She began her schooling at St. Mary’s in Chittagong before moving to Little Jewels in Dhaka. Her academic brilliance continued as she completed her SSC and HSC from Bogra Cantonment Public School and College.Roya’s intellectual prowess shone brightly, as evidenced by her position in the top ten of the combined merit list for both SSC and HSC board examinations.

Her thirst for knowledge led her to the University of Dhaka, where she pursued honors and a master’s degree in International Relations. Not one to rest on her laurels, Roya expanded her academic horizons with another additional master’s degree from the University of Sussex in the UK. She also did her diploma in Early Years Education from Westminster College, London.Throughout her academic career, Roya was a beacon of scholastic achievement, consistently earning scholarships and accolades.

Yet, it was Roya‘s passion for poetry recitation that truly set her apart. Even as a student, she was a celebrated performer, winning numerous prizes for her recitations. Her talent was honoured through rigorous training at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy,and she also learned under the tutelage of esteemed mentors like Kamrul Huda Pothik, Fakhrul Islam Tara, Hasan Arif, and Mahidul Islam. Roya’s debut on stage came during her childhood, and she has since become a beloved figure in the world of poetry, enchanting audiences with her powerful and emotive performances.

Roya‘s artistry transcended borders. During her time in the UK, she dedicated herself to serving the Bengali community, ensuring that their rich linguistic heritage remained vibrant. Her efforts culminated in the release of her first recitation album, “Bedonaduti,” by the Historical Hindusthan Records. Roya‘s commitment to her craft and her culture has seen her perform across the globe, from India and Nepal to the UK, USA, Australia, and Dubai.

Despite her international acclaim, Roya remains deeply connected to her roots. She engages with her fans through her official YouTube channel, where she tirelessly produces content that resonates with audiences around the world. Her dedication to her art and her community has made her a cherished figure in the cultural field of Bangladesh.

She was married to late Major (retired) Mahmud Hussain who subsequently left the job and worked as Investment Banker in Tokyo and London. They have a son, Rayan, who is a successful software developer in the UK. Roya’s commitment to social causes is reflected in her role as the founder and president of the Roya Foundation, through which she spearheads various philanthropic initiatives. Additionally, she serves as an advisor for Rejuva Wellness in Dhaka, promoting health and well-being in her community.
